Malayalam Cinema Legend Sreenivasan Dies at 69
Thiruvananthapuram, December 20, 2025:
Veteran Malayalam actor, screenwriter, and director Sreenivasan died on Saturday morning. He was 69. The filmmaker collapsed while being taken for routine dialysis and doctors later declared him dead.
Hospital sources said Sreenivasan’s condition worsened on the way to the medical facility. He was rushed to Tripunithura Taluk Hospital, where medical staff confirmed his death.
Funeral and Public Homage
Family members moved Sreenivasan’s body to his residence in Udayamperoor. Authorities later kept it at the Ernakulam Town Hall for public homage. Hundreds of fans, artists, and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.
The Kerala government announced state honours for the final rites. The cremation will take place on Sunday morning at his residence in Kandanad.

Sreenivasan played a major role in shaping modern Malayalam cinema. He acted in over 200 films and wrote or directed several classics. His work focused on realism, political satire, and social issues.
